 
Two new studies have been published
that are similar to my programme which is an alternative to the traditional low fat, low calorie
diets. Both studies published in the Annals of Internal Medicine on Monday 17th
May 2004 found that weight loss was greater after 6 months on my style of food
plan.
In the first study carried out at Duke University Medical
Centre, North Carolina, 120 obese volunteers were assigned to follow either a
lower carb, high-protein diet, or a low fat, low cholesterol, low calorie diet.
After 6 months, the people on the low carb diet lost an average of 12lbs more
than a traditional low fat diet!
The eating plan also had a positive effect on the fat and
cholesterol levels of those following it. Serum triglyceride levels decreased
and HDL cholesterol (the good type of cholesterol) levels increased more than in
those following the low fat diet.
In the second similar study, researchers at the Philadelphia
Veterans Affairs Medical Centre followed 132 obese volunteers who were again
assigned to follow a low carb diet or a low fat diet. People on the low carb
diet lost more weight after six months than those on the low fat diet.
Participants in this study who had diabetes had better control of their blood
sugar levels on the low carb diet.
